PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Kansas men’s golf team finished the Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in a tie for 15th following a third round 289 (+1), in Palm Desert, Sunday.
The one-over par team score gave Kansas a three day total to 879 (+15). Kansas’ tournament score was good enough to place them in a tie with in-state rival Kansas State in the 23-team field.
The Jayhawks on the day were led by sophomore Ben Welle, who shot a 4-under par 68, bringing his total score to 218 (+2), placing him in a tie for 52nd in the 127 person field. While Welle led the Jayhawks on the day, it was freshman Chase Hanna who led Kansas in the tournament as he shot a 71 (-1) for the third consecutive day, carding a three-round 213 (-3). Hanna’s score was good enough to give him a top-20 finish as he placed tied for 19th.

“We made a small improvement today,” head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Ben Welle really played well and Chase Hanna had another top-20 finish. We need to get some better help from our fourth and fifth spots. Overall I’m happy with the improvement each day. Now we need to have a couple good weeks of practice before we leave for Louisiana.”
Oregon won the event behind a third round 282 (-6), giving the Ducks a three day total of 837 (-27). Finishing in second, just behind Oregon, was Colorado who recorded a final day score of 284 (-4), bringing its final team score to 840 (-24).
