Five Jayhawks Honored on 2015 Men’s Golf Academic All-Big 12 Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Five Kansas men’s golfers were named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced Friday.

Redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch, sophomore Chase Hanna and junior Connor Peck were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while seniors Logan Philley and Bryce Brown were second-team honorees. All five Jayhawks are appearing on the Academic All-Big 12 squad for the first time as the league recognized 33 men’s golf student-athletes on the squad.

“It’s a great achievement for the guys,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “From day one, we said we are going to do well in the classroom and well on the golf course.”

Historically, KU’s five selections tie for the most for one Academic All-Big 12 Team since the inception of the conference in 1996-97. In 1997 and 2005 there were also five Jayhawks named to the academic all-league squad. KU has had a total of 45 Academic All-Big 12 selections, including 34 first-team honorees.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

First-team members consist of those student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
