Hanna Leads Jayhawks after 36 Holes at Big 12 Championship

TRINITY, Texas – Kansas freshman Chase Hanna leads the Jayhawks with a two-round score of 146 (+2) at the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship Friday at Whispering Pines Golf Club. The four-round event started with 36 holes Friday as KU currently sits in seventh in the nine-team field with a two round of 598 (+22).
Kansas began the day with a morning round of 297 (+9) and followed up with a second round of 301 (+13). The Jayhawks currently trail sixth place and No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State by four strokes. The Cowboys carded a two round score of 594 (+18). No. 14 Texas leads the event with a two round score of 572 (-4). No. 42 Texas Tech sits in second at 577 (+1).
Hanna began the day with a morning round 72 (E) behind three birdies, and carded a second round 76 (+2) with three birdies. Hanna currently sits in a tie for sixth with a two-round score of 146 in the 45-person field. Hanna’s morning round even par marks the seventh time he shot an even par this season.
KU sophomore Ben Welle currently is in a tie for 13th with a two round score of 147 (+3). Welle tied Hanna with a morning round even par, 72, followed by a second round 75 (+3). Senior Ryley Haas contributed to the teams effort as he sits in a tie for 21st with a first round 74 (+2) and a second round 76 (+4). Haas currently has a two round total of 150 (+6) with four birdies on the day.
Jayhawk sophomore Connor Peck struggled in the morning as he carded a morning round 82 (+10) but found his groove in the afternoon as he recorded a 76 (+4). Peck currently sits in a tie for 42nd with a two-round score of 158 (+14). Junior Logan Philley is tied with Peck after shooting a pair of 79s (+7) on Friday.
Texas Tech’s Esteba Restrepo leads the league championship with a two round score of 140 (-4). He has a one-stroke lead over the Texas trio of Toni Hakula, Kramer Kickok and Beau Hossler.
The Big 12 Championship will continue with 18 holes, Saturday, April 26, and conclude with 18 final holes on Sunday, April 27.
