TRINITY, Texas – Kansas freshman Chase Hanna was the Jayhawks top finisher at the 2014 Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club. Hanna finished in 27th with a four round score of 301 (+13) in Sunday’s final round.

As a team, Kansas posted a four-round 1,210 (+58), finishing eighth in the nine-team field. KU shot a 310 (+22) in Sunday’s final round. No. 14 Texas won the Big 12 Championship with a tournament total 1,158 (+6). No. 42 Texas Tech finished second with a 1,161 (+9).

“Obviously this isn’t the result we wanted,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Connor Peck had a solid day today but the rest struggled. On the season it was some great experience for the four new guys this year. We need to really work hard this summer and make sure we come back better.”

The sophomore Peck carded the best round, for Kansas, on the final day with an even-par 72 (E), marking the fourth time this season that he has accomplished that feat. Peck finished in a tie for 37th with an event total of 308 (+20).

Hanna ended his first Big 12 Championship with an 81 (+9) on Sunday but did record with 10 birdies in the four rounds of the event in finishing 27th in the 45-player tourney.

KU sophomore Ben Welle was one place behing Hanna, tying 28th with a 302 (+14). Welle carded a final day 82 (+10), with two birdies bringing his total birdie count to 14 on the weekend.

On Sunday, Jayhawk senior Ryley Haas carded a 5-over par, 77, for the second day in a row. Haas finished the event in a tie for 32nd with a four round total of 304 (+16).

Kansas junior Logan Philley ended his weekend with an 8-over par, 80, placing him in 43rd with a tournament card of 319 (+31).

TCU’s Jullien Brun won the individual Big 12 Championship with a 277 (-11), leading runner-up Sam Daley from Iowa State by nine strokes. Daley ended with a 286 (-2).
