TULSA, Okla. – Behind junior Connor Peck, the Kansas men’s golf team sits in eighth-place after three rounds of the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tuesday.
Texas leads the nine-team field with a three-round 849 (+9). The Longhorns shot 282 (+2) in the third round. Texas Tech is second at 869 (+29). Kansas carded a 297 (+17) in its third round with a three-round 897 (+57). The Jayhawks are two strokes behind seventh-place Baylor at 895 (+55).
Peck led Kansas in the third-round, carding two birdies to shoot 72 (+2). Peck sits tied for 41st heading into the final-round. Junior Ben Welle fired a 73 (+3) Tuesday as he sits in 16th at 220 (+10).
“Connor (Peck) had a good day and Ben (Welle) was solid all day,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said.
KU freshman Daniel Hudson and sophomore Chase Hanna both shot 76 (+6) Tuesday. Hudson is one-stroke ahead of Hanna overall as he sits in 26th with a three-round 225 (+15). Hanna carded three birdies Tuesday and is tied for 28th at 226 (+16). KU redshirt freshman Jacques Wilson shot 77 (+7) for the third round as he sits tied for 36th at 231 (+21).
“We made a few costly errors, but on this golf course, that’s easy to do,” Bermel said. “The course was wet and played fairly tough. Everyone hung in there today, but we just didn’t make enough birdies to offset the bogeys.”
Texas’ Scottie Scheffler leads the championship shooting a 68 (-2) in the third round. Scheffler sits at 207 (-3), three shots ahead of teammate Gavin Hill, who is at 210 (E).
The final-round of the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship will continue Wednesday, April 29, at 8 a.m. (Central). Follow live scoring at www.golfstat.com.
