KU Duo to Compete at the PGA HP Byron Nelson Championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas men’s golf standouts Gary Woodland and Chris Thompson will be competing in the PGA HP Byron Nelson Championship, May 15-18, in Irving, Texas. For Woodland, this will be his 113th PGA event, while Thompson will be competing in his first.
 
Woodland, from Topeka, Kansas, has been a regular on the PGA Tour since 2008. He is currently ranked 22nd in the 2014 FEDEx Cup standings. A two-time All-Big 12 honoree while at KU in 2006 and 2007, Woodland has made 12 cuts in 13 PGA events played in 2013-14 with his best finished being second place at the CIMB Classic, losing in a playoff in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in October. Woodland tied for 11th in last week’s The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
 
Thompson, who calls Lawrence, Kansas, home, qualified for the HP Byron Nelson Championship on Tuesday, May 13, at The Lakes at Castle Hills in Lewisville, Texas, placing second in a playoff. The 1998 and 1999 KU All-American has been competing professionally since 2006, mainly WEB.COM and the Adams tours.
 
The HP Byron Nelson Championship, which is played on the TPC Four Seasons Resort, begins on Thursday, May 15. Woodland will tee off at 12:30 p.m., while Thompson at 1:50 p.m.
