KU Men’s Golf in 11th After First Day of Ram Master Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Kansas sophomore Jackson Foth shot an even-par 70 on the first round of the Ram Master Invitational to lead the KU men’s golf team to an 11th-place two-round score of 585 at the Fort Collins Country Club.

Foth went on to shoot a 75 (+5) in the second round, giving him a two round total of 145 (+5). Foth currently sits in a tie for 29th in the individual leader’s board.

The Jayhawks opened the day with a morning round of 286 (+6) and went on to shoot a 299 (+19) in the second round to finish the first day of the Ram Master Invitational. Kansas finished with a team total of 25-over par.

“I thought the first round we got off to a decent start, played pretty solid and ended strong,” KU head coach Jamie Bermel said. “In the second round we just mentally weren’t into it. It’s disappointing and hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow.”

Kansas sophomore Ben Welle also came out strong in his first round as a Jayhawk, recording three birdies on his way to a 72 (+2). Welle finished the second round with a 74 (+4) bringing his two round total to 146 (+6) placing him in a tie for 33rd.

Jayhawk freshman Chase Hanna joins Ben Welle in a tie for 33rd as he ended the day shooting a 72-74 for 146 (+6). Junior Logan Philley began his Kansas career today scoring four birdies in the first round bringing his total to 72 (+2). In the second round Philley recorded a 76 (+6) making his two round score to 148 (+8).

“We had three guys play today who had never played division one golf,” Bermel said. “Ben (Welle), Logan (Philley) and Chase (Hanna) all did fine. It’s disappointing that they played better in the first round than they did in the second round, but unfortunately that’s the way it goes. Hopefully tomorrow it will be better.”

Host Colorado State leads the event at 564 (+4, 280-284), while Nevada trails by just two strokes with a team total of 566 (+6, 280-286). Cameron Harrell of Colorado State leads all competitors with a two round total of 137 (-3, 70-67).
