Young Squad to Compete at UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational

Live Scoring

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas men’s golf will compete in its final tournament of the 2013 fall season at the UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational in El Paso, Texas, Oct. 25-26.

The Jayhawk squad will consist of freshman Chase Hanna, sophomores Connor Peck, Ben Welle and Jackson Foth and rounding out the group will be the lone upperclassman, junior Logan Philley.

Hanna has led the Jayhawks in three of the first four tournaments of the year. His most successful outing coming at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis., where he finished even par which was good enough to put him in a tie for fifth.

Peck saw the first tournament action of his division one college career earlier in the week when the Jayhawks traveled to Las Cruces, N.M., for the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate (Oct. 21-22). Peck went on to be one of the leaders for the Jayhawks in the second round where he recorded a 73 (+2). Peck finished the tournament at 11-over par in a tie for 42nd.

Welle looks to contribute to the Jayhawks effort as he is trying to build off his best performance of the year in Fort Collins, Colo., where he finished in a tie for 15th at the Ram Master invitational (Sept. 16-17). Welle recorded one of the teams four under-par rounds this season where he shot 2-under par in the final round putting him at 4-over par for the tournament.

Foth is the only Jayhawk on the squad this week that was a member of the roster last year. He looks to take his knowledge and share it with the team as he also looks to keep his momentum up following the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate where he recorded two rounds of 1-over par. Foth finished the tournament tied for 31st while sitting at 9-over par.

Philley is competing in his fifth-straight tournament for the Jayhawks. Philley was just two strokes off of the top-20 during the Ram Master invitational where he finished seven-over par and in a tie for 24th.

The UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational will be played on a 7,307-yard, par-72 course at Butterfield Trail Golf Club. The 15-team field, hosted by UTEP, includes Kansas, Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, Seattle, UC Riverside, Utah and Western New Mexico. The tournament will be played over two days where the competitors will play 36 holes on Friday Oct. 25 and 18 holes on Saturday Oct. 26.
