EL PASO, Texas – Behind senior Logan Philley, the Kansas men’s golf team remains in fourth after day two at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational at the Butterfield Trail Golf Course in El Paso, Texas.

Kansas is seven strokes behind the leader New Mexico State 543 (-33). Following New Mexico State is UMKC at 545 (-31) and Nevada 548 (-28). KU is in fourth with a two-round 550 (-26) in the 14-team field.

“We played pretty solid today, but still counted another triple bogey, which really hurts our team score,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said.

Philley led the KU in Saturday’s round, carding six birdies to shoot 67 (-5) and a two-round 141 (-3). Philley is tied for 28th in the 84-golfer field. Following Philley was sophomore Chase Hanna who moved up the scoreboard shooting 68 (-4) Saturday and a two-round 134 (-10). Hanna enters Sunday’s final round tied for fifth.

KU junior Ben Welle remained in the top-10 shooting a 69 (-3) Saturday. He has a two-round 136 (-8) and is tied for 10th individually. Redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch shot 70 (-2) in his second round is tied with Philley for 28th at 141 (-3). Junior Connor Peck finished day two shooting 70 (-2) and is tied for 35th with 142 (-2).

Freshman Gary Daoust, who is playing as an individual, had KU’s best round of the day, carding four birdies and two eagles Saturday to shoot 65 (-7). Daoust is 10-under (134) after two rounds and is tied with Hanna for fifth. Hanna and Daoust are four strokes behind the individual leader Isaac Merry of New Mexico State who has a two-round score of 130 (-14).

“We have another round on Sunday and we have to continue to be aggressive and make lots of birdies,” Bermel said.
