EL PASO, Texas – Senior Logan Philley and sophomore Chase Hanna led the Kansas men’s golf team to a third-place finish in the final round at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational at the Butterfield Trail Golf Course in El Paso, Texas, Sunday.

Kansas shot a three-round 276-274-272—822 (-42) behind runner-up UMKC 275-270-274–819 (-45). New Mexico State won the event shooting a three-round 272-271-275—818 (-46).

“The guys played solid today, but we still had to count a triple bogey and a double.  We lost by four shots,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said.  “Overall, we had good week of play and it was fun to watch a lot of birdies. If we eliminate a couple big numbers, we have a shot at winning.”

KU finished the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational with four golfers in the top-20 out the 84-golfer field. With his second top-5 finish of the year, Hanna shot a three-round 66-68-66—200 (-16) to place tied for third. Freshman Gary Daoust played as individual and finished seventh shooting a three-round 69-65-70—204 (-12). Junior Ben Welle tied for ninth with 67-69-70—206 (-10). Philley’s 66 (-6) tied Hanna for the KU low round of the day. Philley ended the event tied for 14th with 74-67-66—207 (-9).

“Chase had another good week.  He’s only a sophomore and seems to get better every week,” Bermel said.

Kansas redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch tied for 27th shooting 71-70-70—211 (-5), while junior Connor Peck tied for 69th shooting 72-70-82—224 (+8).

Antoine Rozner of UMKC and Cody Blick of San Jose State tied for first in the event with 198 (-18), two strokes ahead of Hanna.

Kansas will conclude the fall season at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic, Nov. 7-9, in Lahaina, Hawaii.
