Lahaina, Hawaii The Kansas men’s golf team rounded out the fall season climbing the leaderboard to finish fourth at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic at the Ka’anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Hawaii, Sunday.

No. 2 Oregon won the tournament shooting a three-round 819 (-33), followed by No.32 North Florida at 843 (-9). No. 48 Georgia finished third shooting 848 (-4) with Kansas in fourth shooting a three-round 853 (+1). Following Kansas was the No. 27 Clemson team at 857 (+5).

 “It was a total team effort today,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “We played well and beat a pretty good Clemson team.”

In Sunday’s final round, the Jayhawks were led by sophomore Chase Hanna who carded five birdies shooting a three-round 66-79-69—214 (+1) to finish tied for 17th. Junior Ben Welle led KU for the event finishing 16th with a three-round 68-73-73—213 (E), one shot ahead of Hanna. Redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch tied Hanna with 66-78-70—214 (+1) in the 73-golfer field.

KU senior Logan Philley shot a three-round 70-74-72—216 (+3) to finish 23rd followed by freshman Gary Daoust who shot a 72-76-71—219 (+6). Junior Connor Peck, who played as an individual, finished tied for 44th with a three-round 71-71-81—223 (+10).

“I think the fall was a success.  I saw a few different lineups and some of the young guys played well,” Bermel said. “I think we matured on the golf course today and we are starting to show signs of progress. I’m very proud of the guys and how they competed and hope we are even better in the spring.”

The Jayhawks will start the spring season at the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-22, 2015.
