Welle Earns Big 12 Golfer of the Month Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. KU junior Ben Welle received the Big 12 Golfer of the Month honors announced on Thursday.

Welle finished 16th at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic on November 9th.  He started the tournament with five birdies in the first-round 68 (-3).  Welle finished the event with 11 birdies, shooting a three-round 68-73-72—213 (E).  His top-20 finish in the 73-golfer field helped keep Kansas battling to their fifth top-five finish in six events of the fall season.  Welle leads the team with a 71.5 stroke average and +0.125 average versus par, including seven rounds under par in the 2014 fall season.

Welle is the first Kansas men’s golfer to win this award since Nate Barbee in October 2010.
