Miles continues to add to football support staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Les Miles announced three new staff members as Edward Jones II, Will Redmond and Mike Huff have joined the Jayhawk staff, while existing staffer, Tyler Olker, moved into a new role. Jones has joined the staff as KU’s director of player development, Redmond is KU’s director of recruiting, while Huff is the director of football operations. Olker has moved into the role of director of recruiting operations.
 
Edward Jones II, Director of Player Development
Edward Jones II was hired by head coach Les Miles as the director of player development. Jones comes to Lawrence after three seasons at his alma mater, Houston, where he spent final two in the same role for the Cougars.
 
At Houston, Jones created and oversaw the Beyond The Field program, which focuses on the personal welfare, community impact and career development of the Houston football players. Jones assisted in creating relationships with many school districts and prominent businesses in Houston, which helped achieve his mission for the football student-athletes, which was to establish an impact that will be felt for generations.
 
In his first season at Houston, Jones served as the program’s director of high school relations and player development. Prior to joining the Houston football staff, Jones spent three seasons at Fort Bend Hightower High School, where he served as the Hurricanes’ wide receivers coach and teaching world geography. While at Fort Bend, he was part of a staff that won three-straight district championships. In addition to Jones’ teaching and coaching duties, he also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator and social media director.
 
Prior to his time at Fort Bend, Jones spent three years at Cypress Lakes High School, coaching the program’s safeties and teaching world geography.
 
Will Redmond, Director of Recruiting
Will Redmond joins the Kansas football staff as the director of recruiting after spending three years as the director of player personnel on the football staff at Middle Tennessee.
 
At Middle Tennessee, Redmond oversaw day-to-day recruiting operations of Blue Raider football, monitoring prospect information, prospect evaluations and all aspects of on-campus visits. Redmond’s responsibilities also included the recruiting big board and all forms of recruiting databases.
 
Redmond spent his undergraduate years at the University of Tennessee. During his time on the Knoxville campus, Redmond earned his undergraduate (2013) and graduate degrees (2015) in Sport Management while working with the university’s athletic department in multiple capacities.
 
Redmond got his start in college athletics in the fall of 2011 when he served as a media relations student intern. After two years with media relations, Redmond served the Tennessee football recruiting staff as an analyst overseeing the recruitment of prospects in Tennessee, Alabama and the Mid-Atlantic. In May of 2014, Redmond began working with the program’s recruiting operations division.  
 
Redmond joined the Middle Tennessee staff after a brief stint at Western Michigan University where he served as the Broncos’ Director of Player Personnel.
 
Redmond is a native of Franklin, Tennessee and a graduate of Christ Presbyterian Academy where he was a four-year letterman in both football and soccer.
 
Mike Huff, Director of Operations
Mike Huff joins the Kansas football staff as the director of football operations after spending six years as Georgia Tech’s director of football operations and 11 total years with the Yellow Jackets.
 
As director of football operations at Georgia Tech, Huff worked closely with the head coach to oversee all aspects of the program’s day-to-day support operations while serving as a liaison to the athletics department and the Institute.
 
Huff built, developed and implemented the program’s annual budget while overseeing business contracting, team travel, personnel, scheduling and facilities upgrades. He also managed the head coach’s fundraising committee and served as a member of the athletic department’s senior staff.
 
Among his most recent accomplishments, Huff served on the construction board for the $4.5 million renovation of Georgia Tech’s football locker room, which was completed on time in July 2018, assisted with the expansion of the Yellow Jackets’ player personnel unit, tripling the size of the recruiting staff over the past five years, and serving as the football program’s point person for Georgia Tech athletics’ new apparel partnership with adidas, including input on uniform design.
 
Outside of Tech, Huff has served on the College Football Playoff advisory group since 2015, helping plan logistics for the CFP’s annual national championship game.
 
Huff was promoted to director of football operations in 2013 after serving two seasons as assistant director. He joined Georgia Tech’s football staff in 2011 after spending the previous three years as a member of Tech’s communications department (2008-11), working primarily with the Yellow Jackets’ football and baseball programs. He was a part of a Georgia Tech media relations staff that was awarded the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) “Super 11” Award for the 2011 season.
 
A Tulsa, Oklahoma native, Huff earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Dayton in 2007, where he was a member of the Flyers’ soccer team. He earned a master’s degree in sport administration from Georgia State University in 2010.
 
Tyler Olker, Director of Recruiting Operations
Tyler Olker is entering his fifth season with the Kansas football program and his first as the director of recruiting operations. During Olker’s first four seasons at KU, he served as the director of recruiting. Olker is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily recruiting operations and logistics within the Kansas football program.
 
Olker’s duties at KU include managing the recruiting calendar in regards to official visits, unofficial visits, Junior Days and summer camps. Olker works with the director of personnel to coordinate all updates to the recruiting database. He works closely with the creative services team and communications department in the management of the content, creation and design for social media recruiting efforts. Olker is the liaison to the Kansas Compliance office as it pertains to football recruiting, and he assists the director of football operations on a daily basis.
 
Olker, a native of Spring Grove, Illinois, came to Kansas from the University of Northern Colorado. While at UNC, he served as a graduate assistant for the 2014 season, working under defensive coordinator Larry Kerr.
 
Olker graduated from UNC in 2014 with a sports and exercise science degree, and received his master’s degree in sports coaching in May 2016. At UNC, Olker was a two-time letterwinner with All-Big Sky Honors on the offensive line. Olker transferred to UNC from the College of DuPage, where he helped his team to a Graphic Edge Bowl victory in 2010.
