On behalf of the Diversity Leadership Council Staff Initiatives Committee, we welcome you to Join us in our remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr. with our live panel discussion on Wednesday, January 11 at 3:00pm in Horejsi. We will host a live panel discussion to share stories and lessons of Martin Luther King, Jr., enjoy some cookies from CC’s Cookies.

MLK & Cookies, Live Panel Discussion

When: Wednesday, January 11 from 3:00pm – 4:30 pm CST

Moderator: Dr. Shawn Alexander, KU Professor and Chairperson of African-American Studies and Director of the Langston Hughes Center

Panelists:

  • Deborah Dandridge, KU Associate Librarian, Field Archivist and Curator of African American Experience Collections
  • Margaret Simien, former Black Panther and participant in civil rights around the Lawrence community
  • Chandler Prater, Kansas Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete

The 16th Annual Lawrence Rotary Club Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast will be hosted on Monday, January 16th at Maceli’s Banquet Hall. The program will begin at 7:30 am. Our athletics department plans to purchase a handful of tables for this event, and if you are interested in attending, please reach out to Paul Pierce (paulpierce@ku.edu).

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) will host a training session for “Introduction to DEIB” (focusing on Microaggressions) for our staff on January 19 at 10am in Hadl Auditorium. Registration for this training event will be sent out soon.
