Four Jayhawks finish in top-10 at Baker Fall Invite

LAWRENCE, KS. – Junior Annika Cedo led four Jayhawks to top 10 finishes as she captured the first place finish at the Baker University Fall Invite at Eagle Bend Golf Course Thursday afternoon. Cedo, redshirt freshman Aristelle Acuff and freshmen Abby Glynn and Lauren Heinlein each played 36 holes over two days at the par-72 course in Lawrence. KU did not compete as a team at the event, but it was a great opportunity for the four Jayhawks to get some individual rounds of play under their belt.

“This year we have a very large team that is very young,” associate head coach Katy Nahm said. “We do our best to give our players plenty of opportunities to compete, and it was great to have a local event available where we could give them a chance to gain experience and learn more about their games in pressure situations.”

Cedo led all scorers in the tournament, shooting a score of 2-under 70 on day one and finishing with a couple of late birdies for a two-day score of 143 (-1), marking the best score after two rounds in the junior’s career. Heinlein shot a 75 (+3) on the first day of action and ultimately finished in the top-5, placing in a tie for third and shooting 149 (+5).

Seeing the second tournament action of her career, Acuff placed sixth and shot a 75 on day two for a total score of 152. Glynn finished in a tie for 10th, shooting 159 (+15).

“It was exciting to watch them compete this week,” Nahm said. “We are seeing great things from the freshmen as they are getting more confident in each event and at practice. It was encouraging to see Annika handle the pressure of leading a tournament after the first round, and to to see her shoot under par the first day.”

The Jayhawks will head to Kiawah Island, South Carolina for the Palmetto Intercollegiate Oct. 21-23. Tee times begin at 8:45 a.m., on Sunday, and will conclude with a shotgun start on Tuesday.
