Pooka Williams Jr., earns a spot on Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman running back Pooka Williams Jr., earned a spot on the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll after helping lead the Jayhawks to their first Big 12 win in nearly two years as the Jayhawks defeated TCU, 27-26. Williams scored the game-winning touchdown on a 28-yard catch and run, his second TD of the day.
Williams became the first true freshman in Big 12 history to have a 100-yard rushing game and 100-yard receiving game to his credit as he collected a career-high 102 receiving yards on a career-best seven receptions, including two touchdowns, in the win over TCU. Williams added 33 yards on the ground on 11 carries and 40 yards in kickoff returns for a total of 175 all-purpose yards. He previously recorded 100-yard rushing games at Central Michigan (125) and Rutgers (163).
The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, now in its ninth season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner presented by Jewish Hospital Sports Medicine, to be held at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville in March 2019. This will be the Paul Hornung Award’s third year as an associate member of the National College Football Awards Association.
Williams and the Jayhawks are set to host Iowa State for their annual Salute to Service game on Saturday, Nov. 3. Game time is slated for 11 a.m., with a live broadcast on FOX Sports Net.
