Kansas softball adds five in early signing period

Lawrence, Kan. – Kansas softball inked their first class under head coach Jennifer McFalls watch, adding five high school signees in the 2018-19 early signing period.

Three incoming student-athletes, Haleigh Harper, Jordan Richards and Peyton Renzi all hail from Kansas, while Madison Hirsch and Tatum Goff are from Texas. 

Goff, the first signee to ink her name in the 2018-19 early signing period, will be utilized as a left-handed pitcher and first baseman in the the Kansas lineup. The Rusk, Texas native played club ball for Pro Form Fastptich.

Tatum has great velocity and spins it well,” said head coach McFalls. “She could be a difference maker inside the circle, but also at the plate. She has power, bringing another offensive threat for us in the lineup. I am excited to see what her versatility will do for Kansas Softball.”

The other Texas signee Hirsch was the next signee to ink with KU. The Farmers Branch, Texas native played for the Texas Glory squad and is slated to play in the infield and at catcher. 

Madison is a really solid utility player,” McFalls stated. “She can play shortstop, third base, while also spending time behind the plate.  We have high expectations for her in the offensive category.  A really gritty player that I have enjoyed watching progress and I am excited to add her as an important piece to the future of KU softball.”

The trio from Kansas all possess a strong defensive background and will be utilized  throughout the diamond by McFalls. Harper, a Manhattan, Kan., native played for the KC Peppers, while Richards hails from Olathe, Kan., and was involved with the KC Select Fastpitch.

“Haleigh has a strong defensive background and could be a defensive specialist for our program,” McFalls said. “She will also be an asset on the bases. We look forward to seeing how she will contribute at the plate and in the field.”

“Very excited about adding Jordan to our roster,” said McFalls. “She will spend time at catcher and the corner spots in the infield, providing us depth at all three positions. Richards is a strong athlete and will provide us power at the plate.”

“Peyton is very athletic and gifted with great speed,” stated McFalls. “She is a versatile athlete who can play both infield and outfield positions. She could be a strong role player for us and we are excited to see what her versatility will bring to Kansas softball.”
