Seven Jayhawks named to Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas – Kansas women’s golf led the Big 12 with seven players named to the Academic All-Big 12 Teams, including two perfect 4.0 GPA’s from junior Ariadna Fonseca Diaz and sophomore Xinyun Yu.

Sophomore Yi-Tsen Chou, Junior Victoria Chandra, Senior Pitsinee Winyarat and Senior Kallie Gonzales round out those announced as First-Team members while Chomchana Phuchanbanchob was named to the second team.

“To have seven players excelling in the classroom is a tremendous accomplishment especially with how much we travel throughout the semester,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “It’s a testament to their determination and discipline. We are very proud of the work our student-athletes put into their academics and how they represent KU on and off the golf course.”

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Fonseca Diaz is receiving her third Academic All-Big 12 honor as she was named to the Big 12 Academic All-Rookie team.

Since the Big 12 Conference began in 1996-97, Kansas has had a total of 74 women’s golf Academic All-Big 12 honorees. O’Neil has had 51 of those selections in her 13 seasons at KU.

On this year’s Academic All-Big 12 team, there were 38 women’s golf selections, 30 of which were named to the first team. Ten men’s and women’s golfers received a 4.0 GPA including the two Kansas women’s golfers.
