Kawinpakorn earns back-to-back wins

LIPA CITY, Philippines – Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, a former Kansas all-American, posted her second-straight victory with a three-stroke win at The Women’s Championship at Summit Point Golf and Country Club Friday as part of the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour (LPGT).

Last week, Kawinpakorn earned her first win on the China LPGA Tour with a two-stroke victory.

After firing a 3-under 69 in the first round at Summit Point and a 2-under 70 in the second round, Kawinpakorn was challenged during the third round.  But thanks to a 32 on the back nine that included an eagle on the par-5 No. 14 and birdies on Nos. 11 and 15, Kawinpakorn ran away with The Women’s Championship crown with a closing 67.

“I’ve been grinding it out the last seven weeks so it was a much-needed rest,” Kawinpakorn said about getting to bed early the night before her final round. “I felt really good when I woke up and had a lot of energy.”

For her third-round eagle, Kawinpakorn used a 6-iron on her second shot from 170 yards before draining a 16-foot putt to finish 2-under on the hole.

“There was a bit of wind so I picked my 6-iron to do the trick,” said Kawinpakorn.

The win was Kawinpakorn’s second this season on the LPGT, after claiming a three-stroke win at Beverly Place in Pampanga in January.
