KU tennis signing class ranked top-20 nationally

LAWRENCE, Kan. – On the heels of earning its first end of the season top-20 ranking in 20 seasons, the Kansas tennis program added another top-20 effort Wednesday when Tennis Recruiting Network named the Jayhawks’ 2018 signing class No. 19 in the nation.

Head coach Todd Chapman and assistant coach Caroline Lilley added Malkia Ngounoue, a “Blue Chip” prospect from Washington D.C., and Julia Deming, a five-star recruit from Oasis High School in Fallbrook, California to the Jayhawk roster for the fall 2018 campaign.

Despite only two signees in the class, KU cracked the top-20 nationally in the voting. Texas Tech (No. 3) and Oklahoma (No. 8) were the only other two Big 12 Conference members in the top-25.

The Tennis Recruiting Network enlisted the aid of junior tennis experts to determine the top classes. Reporters, national and international tournament directors, referees, ranking chairmen and writers from across the country voted on the top classes. Schools received 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 points for each second-place vote, on down to one point for each 25th-place vote.
