KU softball strengthens pitching staff with pair of transfers
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas softball announced the addition of pitching transfers Kirsten Pruett and Hannah Todd on Tuesday. Both Pruett and Todd are entering their sophomore seasons of athletic eligibility and will compete immediately for the Jayhawks during the 2019 season this spring.
A native of Bastrop, Texas, Pruett spent her last two seasons at nationally-ranked Louisiana, where she redshirted during the 2017 season and made one appearance in the circle in 2018. Pruett graduated from Cedar Creek High School — just east of the Austin, Texas — as the career record holder for wins, strikeouts and innings pitched in school history. She was a first-team all-district honoree and a second team All-Centex selection after recording 329 strikeouts, a 1.04 ERA and a .489 batting average as a senior.
Todd comes from Cartersville, Georgia, by way of North Carolina where she made five appearances and two starts in the pitching circle as a freshman in 2018. As a senior at Cartersville High School, in the greater Atlanta area, Todd posted a 1.25 ERA with 220 strikeouts while batting .330 at the plate. She was named the 2016 Daily Tribune News and Bartow Sports Zone Fall Softball Player of the Year and finished as the runner-up for the 2016 5-AAAA Conference Pitcher of the Year.
Pruett and Todd increase KU’s incoming class of 2018-19 to six players in addition to previously-announced high school signees Cheyenne Hornbuckle (Infield; Bakersfield, Calif.), Lexy Mills (Pitcher/Utility; Calabasas, Calif.), Macy Omli (Outfield; Goddard, Kan.) and Morgyn Wynne (Infield; Pittsburg, Calif.).
