Rock Chalk Choice Awards nominees for Supporting Role, Crimson Climb announced

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Nominees for the seventh annual Rock Chalk Choice Awards are beginning to be unveiled, starting with the nominees for the Best Jayhawk in a Supporting Role and the Crimson Climb awards, which will be presented at the event on September 9 at the Lied Center.

The nominees for Best Jayhawk in a Supporting Role not only give everything they have, day-in-and-day-out, but they have the ability to get the best out of their teammates, elevating the competition every day. The student-athletes nominated for this award demonstrate extraordinary sportsmanship, support and loyalty to teammates and Kansas Athletics.

This year’s nominees for the supporting role award are Jeremiah Booker (football), Casey Douglas (baseball), Hannah Driscoll (swimming & diving/track & field/cross country), Kallie Gonzales (women’s golf) and Nina Khmelnitckaia (tennis).

The Crimson Climb Award is given to the student-athlete that has served as an inspiration to others by overcoming challenges and exceeding academic expectations.

The nominees for this year’s Crimson Climb Award are Rod Harris Jr. (football alumni), Willie McCaleb (football), Sydnee Ramsey (softball) and Anastasia Rychagova (tennis).

The Best Jayhawk in a Supporting Role will be presented by Kansas track & field alum Tre Daniels and current Kansas rower Valerie Swisher. The Crimson Climb Award will be given by current Jayhawk football player and supporting role nominee Jeremiah Booker and KU tennis player Janet Koch.

Following a red-carpet entrance that will aired live on the KU Leads Instagram account and a reception in the Lied Center lobby, accolades in five additional categories – Jayhawker Award, True Blue Award, Rock Chalk Moment Award, and Male and Female Athlete of the Year – will be unveiled and special student-athlete academic achievements will be recognized during the ceremony on September 9.

Due to space limitations, the event is by invitation only and limited to athletic department staff, student-athletes, and selected KU faculty and dignitaries.
