Jayhawk great Holly Reynolds to be inducted in Vermont Sports Hall of Fame

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Former Kansas women’s golfer Holly Reynolds will be inducted into the esteemed Vermont Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2019, the board of directors announced earlier this week. Reynolds is one of 13 inductees being introduced at the 2019 Vermont Sports Hall of Fame (VSHOF) Induction Dinner and Celebration which will be held at the Trader Duke’s Hotel in South Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, April 13.

Reynolds was a four-year player at Kansas from 1990-94, who dominated the women’s golf scene and still currently holds many prestigious school records. Hailing from the small town of Morrisville, Vermont, Reynolds was a four-time Vermont high school state champion at Peoples Academy and won the Vermont Women’s Golf Association’s Amateur championships a record nine times. She secured five-straight state amateur titles from 1989-93 as well as the 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2017 titles.

During her time in Lawrence, Reynolds was a three-time All-Big 8 selection, who competed at the 1993 NCAA Championships, before eventually elevating to the team’s number one player her senior year under head coach Jerry Waugh. She racked up seven career collegiate victories which is tied for first all-time with Yupaporn Kawinpakorn (2015). She still holds the record for most single-season top-ten finishes and has medaled an impressive 25 times in her four-year career including seven as an individual. Reynolds is currently second in career top-five and top-ten finishes. Her regular season and post-season success is unprecedented as she placed tied for ninth in the 1993 NCAA West Regional before capturing a top-15 finish in the championship round.

After graduating, Reynolds carried her success onto the professional ranks and was named Player of the Year on the 1994-95 Central Florida mini-tour as well as qualifying for the 1996 and 1997 U.S Opens. She regained her amateur status after returning to Vermont and is still very active in her home state as seen by her dominance as an amateur.
