Sims, Fontana and Wallace look to showcase their talents in the 2019 NFL Collegiate Bowl

LAWRENCE, Kan.- Three Kansas football players will be representing the Jayhawks in the 2019 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Wide receiver Steven Sims Jr., and offensive linemen Alex Fontana and Dwayne Wallace will be participating in the eighth-annual game, which will be played at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, January 19 at 4 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.

Sims concluded his Kansas career ranked second all-time in receiving yards with 2,582 in his four years as a Jayhawk sitting behind only Dezmon Briscoe. Sims also ranks second in the KU record books scoring 19 receiving touchdowns, while he ranks third in career receptions with 214. He earned Big 12 Honorable Mention honors in 2016 and 2017.

After transferring in from Houston, Fontana played in 12 games starting at center nine times in his lone season as a Jayhawk. He helped pave the way for 1,000 yards rushing from freshman running back Pooka Williams Jr.

Wallace, a graduate transfer from Cal, saw action in all 12 games for KU in 2018, starting 10 at right guard. He too helped Williams to a 1,00o-yard campaign. Wallace played in the 2019 Tropical Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 13, taking home Offensive Line Most Valuable Player honors.

Founded in 2012, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl gives prospective players the best opportunity to showcase their talents to potential employers and fans. Nearly 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams are expected be in attendance to watch live practices, conduct player interviews and review tape.

The Collegiate Bowl not only prepares players for the speed and intensity of professional football, but also for the business and lifestyle changes that come with it.

Last year, the Collegiate Bowl had 42 players receive invitations to the NFL Combine, while 19 players went on to be drafted. In 2013, Kansas quarterback Dayne Crist won the game’s MVP award. Sims and Fontana will be suiting up for the National Team.
