Inside Winter Training: London Acree

TAMPA, Fla. – Throughout Kansas rowing’s week and half training trip to Florida, various Jayhawks will give an inside look at what’s happening each day during winter training with the ‘Inside Winter Training’ Blog.

Winter training is a long trip with lots of time perfecting their craft, so a favorite day for the Jayhawks is the ‘off day,’ which includes some rest and relaxation – usually on the beach. London Acree takes us inside the popular ‘off day.’

Tuesday was our much anticipated off day at Clearwater Beach. We had the opportunity to sleep in late, which was a nice gift after many days of hard work and a big KU Men’s Basketball win!

We chose to go to the beach over Busch Gardens, mostly for the cute picture opportunities- I’m pretty sure. There’s something about the sand and sound of the waves that recharges you, especially when everyone at home is buried in snow!

We split up with our buddies once we got to the beach to shop and eat whatever we wanted. We snapped the perfect photos for every form of social media we all have. I love the free time to bond, have fun and make lifetime memories with my teammates that have become family.

I am thankful for this time on the water for serious training and time with our rowing family to cultivate new relationships and strengthen old ones.

We went to Beef o’ Brady’s for dinner as a team and made some noise when certain people got prizes with the crane machine. We know how to have fun!

Our hands are torn up and our bodies are hurting, but our trainers, Logan and Murphy, are there before and after every practice to help us perform the best we can. Together with our coaches, we are improving each and every day and are ready to race into this season! Look out, Big 12 Conference- here come the JAYHAWKS!

Rock Chalk,
London Acree
