Miles adds Drew Hixson as director of scouting, moves Dirk Wedd to director of high school relations

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Les Miles continues to fill his staff as he announced the hiring of Drew Hixson as the director of scouting. Miles also announced moving Dirk Wedd into the director of high school relations role. Wedd had previously served as an analyst for the defense.
 
Drew Hixson, Director of Scouting
Drew Hixson joined the Kansas football staff in February 2019 as the director of scouting, where he is responsible for identifying and evaluation prospects. Hixson will also assist the recruiting staff in all aspects, including unofficial and official visits.
 
Hixson came to KU after spending the 2018 season at Virginia as an assistant in the football department. At Virginia, he helped with the football program’s recruiting efforts and activities.

Prior to his time at Virginia, Hixson graduated from Georgia in May of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. During his time at Georgia, he spent two years in the football recruiting office, first as a student assistant and then as a volunteer recruiting assistant.

Hixson, a native of Bethlehem, Georgia, married his wife, Charlee, in June 2018.
 
Dirk Wedd, Director of High School Relations
Dirk Wedd is in his second season with the Kansas football program, with 2019 serving as his first season as the director of high school relations. Wedd spent the 2018 season as an analyst for the defense.
 
Prior to joining the KU staff, Wedd spent the previous 19 years as the head football coach and head boy’s golf coach at Lawrence High School, where he was also the chair of the physical education department and a teacher.
 
Wedd arrived at LHS in 1990 as an assistant football coach and assistant baseball coach, while also teaching social studies and physical education. In 1995 he became the head baseball coach for the Chesty Lions, while continuing as an assistant football coach.
 
Before joining the staff at Lawrence High School, Wedd served as an assistant football coach at Wichita State from 1978-85.
 
Wedd began his football coaching career at Pratt Community College in Kansas, serving as an assistant coach from 1975-78. During his time at Pratt he was also the head baseball coach.
 
Wedd earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Emporia State in 1975. He went on to earn a master’s in education from Northwestern Oklahoma in 1978. He is his wife, Gwen, have two children, Shane and Lora, and six grandchildren.
