Kansas adds true competitor to team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Head coach Todd Chapman announced Monday that Vasiliki “Vasia” Karvouni has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play tennis for the University of Kansas Jayhawks.

Karvouni, a native of Athens, Greece, has held a ranking as high as No. 154 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and a Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) ranking of No. 1038.

“We are extremely excited about the addition of Vasia to our Kansas tennis family,” said Chapman. “Vasia is a talented player with a love for the game. She is a tireless worker and is serious about the development of her game. Caroline (Lilley) and the staff did a great job on Vasia’s recruitment; we cannot wait to have her at Kansas and to start working with Vasia on her future on and off the court.”

A true competitor, Karvouni has 10 victories under her belt in singles and doubles across the pro circuit in the WTA and ITF tours’ main draws.

“I chose Kansas because I felt, at once, as a member of the family and because of the quality of coaches and players,” said Karvouni. “I also believe that I will become stronger as a person and a player.”

Karvouni will join the Jayhawks in the fall for the start of the 2019-20 season.
