Kansas women’s DMR breaks school record at Alex Wilson Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Kansas women’s distance medley relay team broke the school record at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday in South Bend, Indiana with a time of 10:58.31. The DMR school record marks the third-straight year a program-best was set at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Loftus Sports Center.
 
Freshman Ally Ryan led off the quartet with the 1,200-meter leg of the relay, before giving way to senior Nicole Montgomery.
 
Montgomery, who was also a member of the last two DMR school record-breaking performances, ran the 400-meter segment of the race, passing the baton to fellow senior Marleena Eubanks. Eubanks ran the 800-meter portion of the relay before senior Sharon Lokedi anchored the team to the school record.
 
Lokedi was a member of last year’s school record-breaking DMR team, also running the 1,600-meter leg. The Eldoret, Kenya native anchored last year’s team to a combined time of 11:01.19, and was one of five school records she was a part of last season.
 
Mariah Kuykendoll, Montgomery, Eubanks and Honour Finley finished the 4×400-meter relay with a combined time of 3:37.51. The Jayhawks were the only team in the event.
 
Riley Cooney and Courtney Griffiths competed in the 800-meter run in South Bend. Cooney finished 13th with a time of 2:11.51 and Griffiths notched a personal record time of 2:12.29 to finish 15th.
 
UP NEXT
The Kansas track & field teams will travel to Lubbock, Texas for the 2019 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship, February 22-23. The conference meet will be hosted at Texas Tech’s Sports Performance Center.
