Jayhawks fall at No. 1 Baylor
WACO, Texas – Despite keeping the game close in the first 10 minutes, No. 1 Baylor sparked its offense in the second quarter and topped Kansas, 80-40, on Wednesday night inside the Ferrell Center.
Senior guard Christalah Lyons was the only Jayhawk to score in double figures for the Jayhawks, ending the night with 10 points.
Baylor had four players finish the night scoring double digits, led by junior Juicy Landrum’s game-high 20 points. Senior Kalani Brown posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while junior Lauren Cox and fifth year Chloe Jackson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
KU limited the Lady Bears to just 13 points in the opening period, their second-lowest scoring performance in the first quarter this season. Baylor’s struggling offense along with three of BU’s six turnovers coming in the first period allowed Kansas to stay within four after the first 10 minutes of play.
After a Lyons layup pulled the Jayhawks within two points to start the second period, the Lady Bears went on to score 16 unanswered points to take a 29-11 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Baylor never relinquished a double-figure lead, owning a 37-19 lead at the break.
Despite a closer third quarter, Kansas was outscored, 43-21, in the second half as the Lady Bears topped the Jayhawks, 80-40.

- Kansas held Baylor to just 13 first quarter points, the Lady Bears’ second-lowest scoring first period this season. Baylor scored just eight points in the first quarter against Stanford, the Lady Bears’ only loss this season.
- The Jayhawks’ 40 points against Baylor mark a season low.
- Junior forward Mariane De Carvalho grabbed a team-leading and career-best seven rebounds against the Lady Bears.
