EXPANSION/RENOVATION OF FACILITIES

Kansas Athletics is committed to providing the finest facilities for its intercollegiate athletics programs. Therefore, the Director of Athletics, the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and the Assistant Athletic Director/Facilities Planning conduct an annual review of all facilities utilized by Kansas Athletics to determine their need for expansion or renovation. The Assistant Athletic Director/Facilities & Event Management is responsible for facilities inspections on a routine basis and discusses all identified problems with the Associate Athletics Director/Internal Affairs.

Head Coaches and administrative staff members may propose the expansion or renovation of a facility to the Assistant Athletic Director/Facilities Planning throughout the year. These proposals are reviewed and prioritized by the Assistant Athletic Director/Facilities Planning. Such determinations are based on the impact the improvements would have on the University and Kansas Athletics. In addition, the age of the facility, its compliance with federal and state laws, and the demand for the facility may also be taken into account when determining the necessity of improvements.

After determining project requirements and estimated costs, the Assistant Athletic Director/Facilities Planning, in conjunction with the Associate Athletics Director/Internal Affairs, submits recommendations for proposed projects to the Director of Athletics. The submission should coincide with annual budget preparations.

Funds for expansion and renovation projects may be derived from several sources, including Kansas Athletics operational funds, State bond issues and the Williams Educational Fund. The Director of Athletics and the Chancellor are responsible for determining the method of funding.

Once the project is approved, the Assistant Athletic Director/Facilities Planning serves as Kansas Athletics liaison for the completion of the project and oversees the project from planning to completion phase.
