RCW: A Look Back 3.26
This week’s A Look Back features a baseball donated to the Booth Family Hall of Athletics in 2014 by John Chalfant.
The ball is signed by the 1927 Kansas baseball team after its 7-6 victory over the “Aggies” from Kansas State on May 20, 1927. Some of the legible names include (top to bottom on photo two): “Cricket” Krieckhaus, Bob Maney, Ralph Childs, “Lefty” Heistand, “Livy” (presumably Lloyd Livingston, team captain), “Doc” Ralston, and Jip (James) Hill. The ball is currently on exhibit in the 1920s Story of Sport case in the Booth Family Hall of Athletics. Names not pictured but visible in the exhibit include H. Oliver “Mort” White, Durward “Kelly” Swenson, John Bunn (head baseball coach and later a Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame inductee), Mel Kraemer, Wayne Culp and Charles Wall.
