RCW: A Look Back 4.6

This week’s A Look Back features a man whose involvement with Kansas Athletics spans decades and roles. Jerry Waugh began his career with Kansas Athletics as basketball player in 1948. After spending four seasons on the team, he became an assistant to Dick Harp in 1957, a position he held for four years. During the 1958-59 season, he did double-duty as the men’s golf coach. He then coached elsewhere, returning to KU in 1974 to serve as an assistant athletics director working with Olympic sports until 1979, and again doing double-duty as men’s golf coach in 1976. In 1992, after serving for several years on the staff at Alvamar Golf Course, he returned to Kansas Athletics as head women’s golf coach. He retired in 1999 and was inducted into the Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000. Just yesterday, Waugh was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, located in Wichita.
