Swinging Away – A young tennis player took a big swing in front of KU freshman Tatiana Nikolaeva during the KU youth clinic inside the new Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park. KU tennis players shared their time with the young players after the Jayhawks defeated Saint Louis 6-1 on Friday, January 20, in the first home match of the spring 2017 season.

Smashing Success – KU’s Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum smashed a running forehand during her straight-set, No. 3 singles victory in the Jayhawks’ 6-1 triumph over Saint Louis on Friday, January 20, inside the new Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park.

Racket Rest – Young players rested their tennis rackets against the net during warmups for a KU youth clinic inside the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park on Friday, January 20. Following the Jayhawks’ home-opening victory over Saint Louis in the first matches played in the new facility, KU players took time to share their skills with the participants.

Long Toss – KU pitcher Jon Hander took a big step in recovery from his second Tommy John surgery on his right arm by throwing “long toss” inside Anschutz Sports Pavilion on Friday, January 13. The junior pitcher tore the ulnar collateral elbow ligament in his throwing arm after his freshman season and then again during the season-opening game of his sophomore campaign in 2016. While Hander does not expect to take the mound during the 2017 season, he hopes to pitch again in the spring of 2018.

Lay It Down – Junior Mikayla Warren laid down a bunt in front of junior catcher Harli Ridling during KU softball’s practice inside the team’s indoor facility at Rock Chalk Park on Friday, January 20.

Into the Mystic – Junior Devonte’ Graham flew into streaking light inside Allen Fieldhouse for a basket on Saturday, January 21. Graham scored a team-high 18 points in KU’s 79-67 defeat of Texas, the Jayhawks’ 18th-straight win this season and 50th-straight home victory.
