RCW: Competitive Fire Fuels 2017 JayRock

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and KU Leads kicked off the spring 2017 semester with the always-popular student-athlete variety show JayRock on January 30 inside of Horejsi Family Athletic Center. For the second time in as many years, the Kansas softball team earned bragging rights among the KU student-athlete community by winning the 12th annual JayRock. Coming in second was track & field, while the soccer and swimming & diving teams shared third place. This year’s theme was “Children’s Movies for Children’s Mercy,” in which teams performed skits based around children’s movies, both past and present.

SAAC conducted a “Penny Wars” competition the week prior to the variety show to raise money for Children’s Mercy. Each team gained points by having coins added to their penny jar, but lost points when dollar bills were added. The Jayhawks raised a total of $3,000, which was presented to a Children’s Mercy representative the evening of the show.
