Linebacker Joe Dineen Jr., was named to Sports Illustrated‘s Second-Team Defense Thursday as part of the publication’s 2017 All-America football teams. Dineen led the Big 12 Conference in total tackles (137), tackles-for-loss (25.0) and solo tackles (93). His 7.8 solo tackles per game also led the FBS, while his 2.1 TFLs per contest ranked third in the nation. His 25.0 TFLs set a new KU single-season record. Dineen is the first Jayhawk to pick up All-America honors from Sports Illustrated since 2007 when cornerback/kick returner Aqib Talib was also named to the outlet’s second team.

Junior guard Lagerald Vick averaged 26.5 points per game in the two losses last week for the Jayhawks. Vick tossed in a career-best 28 points in Wednesday’s 74-65 defeat at the hands of Washington at Sprint Center and followed that performance up with a 25-point effort in Sunday’s 95-85 home loss to Arizona State. Vick shot a combined 23-for-38 (.605) from the field, and 3-for-8 (.375) on threes. He also added a combined 12 rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Forward Tyler Johnson came off the bench in both games and led the Jayhawks in scoring for the week with 12.5 points per contest. Johnson logged 22.5 minutes per game and shot 10-for-18 (.556) from the field to help KU improve to 8-1 on the season. She also grabbed a total of 11 rebounds and added a blocked shot. Johnson posted a season-best 14 points in Sunday’s 51-50 win over Southeast Missouri State.

Junior guard Christalah Lyons was second in scoring for the Jayhawks this past week with 10 points per game. Shooting 7-for-19 (.368) from the field and 2-for-6 (.333) on threes, Lyons dished out a team-best eight assists over the two games, while adding four rebounds and a steal.
