Kansas rowing traveled to Tulsa Nov. 3-4 for its final regatta of the fall season. The Jayhawks competed against Tulsa, SMU and Central Oklahoma during the two-day event.

For many of the Novice rowers, the fall is when they truly start their rowing journey, gain the most experience and have begun to show great improvement during the two fall regattas. The Novice Four has shown that they are ready for what the rest of their rowing careers have to hold.

When it was the Novice Four’s turn to race on the second day of competition in Tulsa, the five Jayhawks in the Amelia took full advantage of this opportunity. Kansas Novice Four (B) was a true freshmen boat with Kaeli Nielsen, Sydney Becker, Shayla Bowers, Grace Hermes and led by coxswain Raven Swingler.

The Jayhawks took first-place beating out five other boats, including Tulsa and Central Oklahoma. Kansas finished the race in 21:30.0, edging out Tulsa by nearly 1.2 seconds.

During their first fall season of competition, the Novice rowers made great strides at the Jayhawk Jamboree and took it a step further at the Tulsa Invitational with faster times and taking home the first-place win.
