Coming off a successful junior campaign this cross country season, Sharon Lokedi wasted no time rewriting the Kansas indoor track & field record books, breaking her own school record in the 5,000-meter run in her first indoor race in over a year.

Already winning her second-straight Big 12 Cross Country individual title and earning All-Region honors with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional this year, Lokedi returned to the indoor track after redshirting the 2016-17 indoor season.

Running against the nation’s top talents in the 5,000 meters at the BU Season Opener in Boston, Massachusetts on December 2, Lokedi broke her own school record by 19 seconds, crossing the finish line in 15:39.05 to finish fourth overall. Her previous school record of 19:57.95 was set at the Iowa State Classic on February 12, 2016.

Lokedi and the Jayhawks have over a month off before returning to the track in mid-January. The Kansas squad will split up and part of the team will travel to the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on January 12, while the others will stay in the Sunflower State and compete at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular in Manhattan, Kansas on January 13.
