Junior Chomchana Phuchanbanchob and sophomore Xinyun Yu both had career performances for Kansas women’s golf at the Westbrook Spring Invitational held Feb. 25-26 in Peoria, Arizona .

Phuchanbanchob bested her career-low 54-hole total by shooting a 214. Shealso carded 3-under in round one on Sunday, the first round in the 60’s for any Jayhawk in the 2017-18 season. The Chiang Rai, Thailand, native finished 2-under overall and tied for 24th in the event.

Yu recorded her first round under par Sunday and beat her career-low 54-hole total by 10 strokes (218). Yu finished in a tie for 42nd.

“The bright spots for the final round and overall were Chomchana and Xinyun, without a doubt,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “I’m so happy for both of them for accomplishing their personal bests so far. Both work hard on their games and are very coachable, which are important qualities for any player to possess if they want to be successful day in and day out.”

As a team, Kansas shot 14-over (878) in the event, also the lowest 54-hole total of the season and finished in 14th place.

The Jayhawks will return to action on March 19 at Briar’s Creek Invitational in John’s Island, South Carolina, to play in the two-day event.
