The Kansas women’s golf team concluded its season at the Big 12 Championship Sunday at the Dallas Athletic Club on the facility’s Blue Course.

The Jayhawks finished ninth overall in the two-day event and junior Ariadna Fonseca Diaz led Kansas through the final round after shooting 1-under (71).

Diaz started day two strong with a birdie putt on hole No. 2, followed by back-to-back birdies on No. 8 and 9 to put her 3-under through the front nine. On the back nine, Fonseca Diaz remained steady despite carding a single bogey on No. 11 as she remained even through five-straight holes before shooting another bogie on No. 17. Fonseca Diaz finished 26th overall in her third Big 12 Championship appearance.

“Ari was very relaxed and confident and it showed in her play,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “She’s been working on simplifying her pre-shot routine and was able to commit to it fully throughout the round. She was the bright spot in our week and we are very proud of her efforts. Hopefully it gives her a confidence boost going into the summer and motivates her to keep building on what she’s learned.”

With the completion of their season, the Jayhawks say goodbye to two members of the senior class in Kallie Gonzales and Pitsinee Winyarat.

A native of Montgomery, Texas, Gonazles competed in seven events for the Jayhawks this season and tied for 15th at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, her first top-20 tournament finish.

Winyarat competed in four events for Kansas and was the team’s top finisher at the Marilynn Smith Invitational, where she finished fifth overall. Winyarat also had a top-10 finish at the Chip-N-Club Invitational.

Both seniors also earned Academic All-Big 12 First-Team honors during their final season with the Jayhawks.
