Career Honors: 2007:Academic All-Big 12 Second Team, KU Offensive Player of the Week (vs. Kansas State)

2007 (Jr.): Started all 13 games at left guard.

2006 (So.): Came off the bench to play at Baylor for only action of the season … A member of the Athletic Director[apos]s 3.0-3.99 Honor Roll for the second year.

2005 (Fr.): Gained experience as a member of the offensive scout team… A member of the Athletic Director[apos]s 3.0-3.99 Honor Roll.

2004 (RS): Redshirted… A valuable walk-on who contributed on both sides of the ball on the scout team… Chosen by the coaching staff as the scout team offensive player of the week against Toledo… Switched to offense midway through the season… Selected offensive scout team player of the week against Texas.

High School: Awarded three wrestling and two football letters… Had a remarkable year in 2004 in which he was named All-State First Team and All-League First Team at defensive tackle… Also an All-League First Team and academic All-State selection in wrestling… Helped the football team to district and regional championships… Wrestling team was crowned state champion in 2004… Coached in football by Butch Albright.

Personal: Born in Manhattan, Kan… Majoring in business management and leadership… Plans to go to graduate school… Hobbies include fishing, cooking and video games… Son of Teresa Mayes and the late Robert Mayes… Has two brothers and one sister… Brother Alex played football at Butler Community College.
