2010 (Fr.): Saw action in 10 games as a backup running back and on special teams… Did not play against Georgia Tech or Iowa State… Rushed 55 times for 211 yards and one touchdown on the year… Also caught four passes for 21 yards… Ran 10 times for 17 yards in his first collegiate game against North Dakota State… Best game was 11 rushes for 37 yards against New Mexico State… Ran for at least 30 yards in four different games… Long run of the year was a 17-yarder against Missouri… Best receiving game was two for 14 yards against Colorado… Returned a kickoff 21 yards against Missouri.

2009 (RS): Redshirted his first year at KU… Named Otto Schnellbacher Offensive Scout Player of the Year for the Jayhawks… Named KU Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week vs. Southern Mississippi and at Kansas State.

High School: Arrived on campus for Spring of 2009… Played running back, defensive back and returned punts and kickoffs… Played his senior season at Piper HS after previously attending Monarch HS… Rushed for 1,276 yards and 10 touchdowns on 235 carries as a senior… Was the second-leading rusher in Broward County… His 235 carries were the 10th-most in Broward County history… As a junior he led the county in rushing with 1,486 yards and 13 TDs on 223 carries.

Personal: Son of Tony and Calandra Sands… Father was a standout running back at KU from 1988-91… Tony holds the KU single-game rushing record of 396 yards vs. Missouri in 1991 and is the school[apos]s second-leading career rusher with 3,788 yards… Has one brother and one sister… Major is American studies with a minor in African and African-American studies.
