Jayhawks open fall slate at Head of the Oklahoma

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas rowing will kick off the 2018-19 season with the first of three fall regattas at the Head of the Oklahoma Sept. 29-30 on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City.
 
This will be the first opportunity for the Jayhawks to compete against top programs from around the country after several weeks of training on the water. Kansas will be competing in five events over the weekend, a head race style, in which boats launch one at a time and race against the clock.
 
The Women’s Collegiate 8+ is starting the competition off on Saturday at 12 p.m. Kansas will have two varsity eight boats racing alongside SMU, Central Oklahoma, Tulsa, Central Florida and Big 12 rivals Oklahoma and Alabama.
 
Later in the day, Kansas will look to keep the momentum going as four Jayhawk boats hit the water again for the Women’s Collegiate 4+ at 3:40 p.m. and the Women’s Collegiate 8 sprints at 8 p.m.
 
Racing continues into Sunday as KU concludes the weekend three boats competing in the Women’s Open 2- at 8:40 a.m. and three boats racing in the Women’s Open 4+ at 10:35 a.m.
 
This weekend marks KU’s first trip back at the Head of the Oklahoma since the 2013-14 season. The Jayhawks had all eight boats finish in the top 10, including a second-place finish from the First Varsity Eight.

Kansas will be back on the water for the sixth annual Jayhawk Jamboree on Oct. 21 at the Kansas Boathouse.
