Rowing's 2V4 Earns Big 12 Boat of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas – The University of Kansas rowing team’s Second Varsity Four (2V4) earned Big 12 Boat of the Week honors, the conference announced Thursday, after going undefeated at the Knecht Cup in New Jersey last weekend.

“We are really excited for this group’s success this past weekend,” said Kansas assistant coach Carrie Callen. “It is encouraging to see they are also critical about what they needed to improve upon moving forward in the big picture as they keep developing for our upcoming race.”

The award-winning boat, led by Coxswain Bailey Coolidge, Bailey Blood, Kylee Dewey, Peyton Anderson, and Lilly Stewart, began the Knecht Cup with an unbelievable outing in their first heat, finishing in first place out of six schools with a time of 7:56.52, thirty seconds before the next boat.

In the semifinal race, the Jayhawks took on Boston College, New Hampshire, Bucknell (B), Tulsa and North Carolina. Again finishing first, Kansas automatically qualified for the Grand Final, crossing the finish line with a time of 8:26.20. On Sunday, Kansas headed into the Grand Final outracing Boston College, Bucknell A, New Hampshire and Alabama A and Alabama B posting a time of 7:32.33 and taking home the gold medal.

The Jayhawks will be back in action on April 23 as they participate in the Big 12-Big Ten Double Dual in Devils Lake Wisconsin.
