McGinley Joins Jayhawks for 2014

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head softball coach Megan Smith announced on Tuesday the addition of Shannon McGinley to the Jayhawk roster for 2014. McGinley, a sophomore from Prairie Village, Kan., transferred to KU from Virginia.

“We are very excited that Shannon will be a part of our team this spring,” said head coach Megan Smith of adding McGinley to the roster. “She played against some of the best competition in the country during her freshman year and that experience will help her contribute to our success this season. We are glad that she will be playing closer to home now and also playing with her sister Erin next season.”

During her freshman season with the Cavaliers, McGinley started 40 games in the outfield and appeared in 42 games. She hit .204 on the year with 21 hits and six runs scored. McGinley recorded the third-most doubles on the squad in 2013 with seven. She also drove in 10 RBIs and was 4-for-4 in stolen bases.

McGinley prepped at Shawnee Mission East High School and was a four-year softball letterwinner. She helped the Lancers to a regional championship and earned first-team all-state honors during her senior season. McGinley also played in the Kansas Softball All-Star game at the conclusion of her high school career.

While playing for Shawnee Mission East, McGinley was named All-Sunflower League First Team and bat a team-high .518. She led the squad in on base percentage (.598), slugging percentage (.684) and RBIs (36) her senior year. She was named the Lancers’ MVP in 2010 and the Shawnee Mission East Female Athlete of the Year three times.
