Big 12 Honors Pille for Midweek Gem

IRVING, Texas – Kansas hurler Alicia Pille was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on April 13 as announced by the league Tuesday. Pille’s second Big 12 Pitcher of the Week accolade is the fifth time this season that a Jayhawk has earned a conference weekly award, which is the most in a single season for KU softball.

Pille tossed her sixth shutout of the 2014 season last week at UMKC as the Jayhawks topped the Kangaroos 5-0. The junior was two outs away from recording a perfect game and sat down 19 batters in order and faced one over the minimum. The ‘Roos lone hit in the bottom of the seventh separated Pille from her second no-hitter of the season.

The Royse City, Texas, native struck out eight batters and improved to 10-3 in the circle with the victory. Pille’s seven scoreless innings dropped her ERA to 2.02 and marked the second-straight shutout for Pille over UMKC.

The Jayhawks return to Big 12 action this weekend hosting Texas Tech April 17-19 at Arrocha Ballpark. The series kicks off on Thursday, April 17 at 5 p.m. and its #KUsoftball night where admission is $3 for fans showing proof that they follow KU softball on social media.
