Six Jayhawks participating in USA Volleyball tryouts

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Kansas volleyball will be represented by five student-athletes and assistant coach Billy Ebel during the annual U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts, March 2-4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Sophomore outside hitter Jada Burse, sophomore middle blocker Zoe Hill, sophomore libero Allie Nelson, senior setter/opposite Gabby Simpson and sophomore outside hitter Ashley Smith will tryout with 234 athletes from 89 colleges for spots on the U.S. Women’s National Team, U.S. Collegiate National Teams program, and U.S. Women’s Junior National Team.  

USA Volleyball will be using Facebook Live each day of the tryout to provide exclusive updates to fans.

Ebel will assist the tryout process as a coach, led by three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women’s National Team staff.

Jayhawks who have made U.S. Collegiate National Teams include All-Americans Kelsie Payne, Ainise Havili, Madison Rigdon and Cassie Wait.

In 2017, Payne was named to the European Tour Team and Rigdon traveled with the Thailand Tour roster. In 2016, Payne competed the Pan American Cup roster and brought home a bronze medal. Havili and Rigdon were one of 12 athletes selected to compete in a tour of China with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.
