Hagan, McClure claim spots on All-Region squads

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas forwards Grace Hagan and Katie McClure each were named to the Midwest All-Region teams by the United Soccer Coaches Monday. Hagan became the third Jayhawk in program history to earn a spot on the All-Region First Team twice in a career, while McClure claimed All-Region honors for the first time in her career after being slated to the third team.

The senior, Hagan, who also earned First Team All-Region honors in 2016, recently concluded one of the best careers in KU soccer history. The Wichita, Kansas product posted a team-leading 62 shots, scored seven goals and added five assists this season to become just the second Jayhawk in program history to tally 25 goals and 15 assists in a career. Hagan’s 25 career goals ranks fifth in school history and her 17 assists were the seventh-most by a Jayhawk. With Monday’s announcement, Hagan joined the school’s two all-time goal scoring leaders, Caroline Smith and Liana Salazar, to claim All-Region First Team honors twice in a career.

McClure closed out her junior season with a team-high 11 goals as well as three assists. Her seven game-winning goals tied the single-season program record and ranked the Wichita native third in the NCAA. Her 11 goals were the fifth-most scored by a Jayhawk in a single season.

Hagan and McClure become just the sixth Kansas duo to earn All-Region honors in the same season.

Kansas finished the 2018 season at 12-6-3 overall and sixth in the Big 12 with a 5-4-0 record. The Jayhawks advanced to the second round of NCAA Tournament before falling to the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
