Kansas to open spring exhibition season Saturday at Rock Chalk Park

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer will open its 2019 spring exhibition season Saturday when the Jayhawks take on the Grand Valley State Lakers inside Rock Chalk Park. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m., with admission free to the public.

Saturday’s match will be the first of five exhibitions Kansas will take part in during their spring campaign, all at Rock Chalk Park.

The Lakers, members of NCAA DII, are coming off a 25-1-1 record in their 2018 season, with the lone loss coming in the NCAA Tournament’s National Championship game in December.

Kansas finished the 2018 season at 12-6-3 and 5-4-0 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round before falling to the eventual national runner-up, North Carolina.

The Jayhawks will have some big shoes to fill left by departing senior starters Grace Hagan, Miriam Melugin and Kaycie Young . Kansas is expecting to see the return of eight starters from last season, including the team’s leading goal-scorer, Katie McClure.
