McClure named Big 12 Freshman of the Week

IRVING, Texas – A game-winning goal and a key assist last weekend earned Jayhawk forward Katie McClure Freshman of the Week honors it was announced by the league office Tuesday morning. McClure helped the Jayhawks to an unblemished weekend with wins over TCU and Texas. The honor is the first of McClure’s career and the first weekly Big 12 award claimed by a Jayhawk this season.
 
McClure was a key component to the Jayhawks’ perfect weekend on the road, tallying an assist and a game-winning goal. On Friday, she set up teammate Lois Heuchan for the eventual game-winning goal in the 59th minute against TCU, McClure’s first assist of the season. On Sunday against Texas, the Wichita native shot in her fourth goal of the year with less than five minutes remaining in regulation to break the 0-0 tie and lift the Jayhawks to their third-straight win to start Big 12 play. McClure also added a game-high five shots in the victory over UT.
 
McClure and the rest of her Kansas teammates will return to action this Friday when they go up against No. 2 West Virginia at Rock Chalk Park. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
