Salazar and Colombian league squad to take part in inter-league friendly

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas soccer star Liana Salazar and her team, Independiente Santa Fe, are to be featured in an inter-league friendly Thursday against Atlético de Madrid. The duel between the champions of the Liga Iberdrola (Spain) and Liga Águila (Colombia) is part of a collaboration agreement between LaLiga and DIMAYORin an effort to promote and development of professional women’s soccer.
 
Salazar, who played for the Jayhawks from 2011-15 and ended her career as the program’s No. 2 goal score all-time, joins her Santa Fe team that is coming if a league championship last year in Liga Águila’s inaugural season. Salazar was the team’s captain and appeared in each of the Lionesses’ matches as Santa Fe tallied a perfect 10-0-0 record in group play before going 5-0-1 en route to the league title.
 
Atlético de Madrid and Independiente Santa Fe will play the friendly match at the Ciudad Deportiva de Santo Domingo in Alcorcón, Spain this Thursday. 
 
Salazar ended her KU career with 28 goals and 12 assists in 83 appearances for the Jayhawks. She was a three-time All-Big 12 First Team Selection and was a named a Third Team All-American following the 2014 season.
